About Me
Hello world!!
I was born before the baby boomer generation, before the women’s equality movement, before title IX (women’s equal access to sports opportunities), as a result, I couldn’t play in games with the Little League Team I worked out with. It was a time when few women had careers, most stayed home to raise the kids while the father supported the family. Most had these choices; to be a wife/mother, a secretary, a nurse and if you went to college, to become a teacher. Forget what you REALLY wanted to do…..We could never wear pants at school or in the workplace. When teaching, I could not work beyond 6 mo of pregnancy.
I have two wonderful adult children who are happy and doing the things they love, a lovely intelligent, creative daughter-in-law, one grand-dog and 4 grand-kitties. Have great memories of all the things Rebecca, Mike, and I used to do….impromptu long trips across country in the old ‘71 Ford Country Squire, museums and historical trips—I know, I know……..always teaching…….my kids called me Mrs. FACT.
I got a BA from the University of Illinois where I met Rebecca’s and Mike’s dad.
I’ve moved around a little from my native Chicago area; to Los Angeles in mid 60’s; to England for a little over 2 years; Rebecca was born there-has dual citizenship; back to Chicago for about 18 mo. where Mike was born, and then back to SoCal in 1970, where I have lived in So. Orange Co, in So East LA Co, and for the last 20 years in a beautiful little town of 36,000 which backs into the SanGabriel Mountains, 35 miles NE of LosAngeles.
I am currently looking forward to relocating to Oregon, where Joe and I bought a house in 2003. The town is 125 mi. N. of the California border on one of the 3 main rivers that go to the Pacific. There is 1st rate fly fishing there, 1 1/2/hrs to the coast along the river (currently 14 wineries from coast to town) hmmmmmm….and then another hour to the East where we can cross country ski in winter and enjoy lakes and rivers in the summer and 30 min further end up at beautiful Crater Lake. We also are the County Seat, have a fabulous library, terrific county museum, a Comm. College, 2 hospitals and 2 airports….Joe made sure of that. We will be about an hour So of Eugene, where the U of O is, Eugene International, and Trader Joe’s (oh, dear).
6/2007, I retired from 42 years in public education; many areas from child development, adult school, K-8, Reading Spec., Gifted and Talented, Learning Handicapped–Special Ed. and University levels. It was quite a ride. I was really thrilled and surprised when almost 85 people showed up at my retirement where several very good friends gave me quite a “roast”.
I enjoy:
Photography
Technology
Gardening
Working out—water aerobics, yoga, weight resistance, aerobic and fat burning exercise.
